Sporting Activities
Golf We have some of the most scenic and extensive golf courses in the country. The closest ones to us are Seahouses, Bamburgh, Berwick, Alnwick, Wooler and Belford.
Horse Riding
Horse riding in Northumberland can be exhilerating! You can either ride into the Cheviot Hills, taking in the breathtaking views along the way, or travel along Holy Island's amazing expanse of beautiful beach. Taking the horses swimming is another option, if not a brave one!
The Kimmerston Riding centre is situated near Wooler only a short drive from Akeld. All levels of rider are welcome.
Fishing
The rivers Tweed, Tyne, Till and Coquet are some of the best salmon fishing rivers in the country. In addition, Keilder Water has a first class reputation for still water fishing.
On shore fishing from rock edges and some harbour walls are possible at Bamburgh, Seahouses, Beadnell, Embleton Bay, Craster, Hauxley, Newbiggin and Cambois.
Permits can be obtained for casual visitors at a number of local angling clubs. Remember you will also need an Environment Agency National Rod License, obtainable from the Post Office, tackle shops, or on-line.
Four lakes in Northumberland offer course fishing, with seven lakes and reservoirs offering trout fishing. Wild brown trout are augmented by stocked rainbow and brook trout.
Quad Biking
Lots of fun can be had for children and adults at Woolaw Farm, six miles north west of Otterburn. Telephone 01830 520686.

Aqua Trax

Climbing and Mountaineering
Excellent opportunities for climbing are available at Simonside, near Rothbury. Indoor climbing is also available at Cramlington. Telephone 01670 717421/717423.
Gliding
This is a truly amazing experience! The Borders Gliding Club is only about four miles from Akeld. Flights are available all year around. There is really no better way to view the beautiful surrounding countryside! Telephone 01668 216284.
Diving
The Farne Islands, one of the most dangerous shipping areas in the British Isles, has claimed numerous ships. The wrecks now littering the sea bed combined with the ever present large seal colony that can be found here makes this a great adventure playground. Diving boats leave from Seahouses Harbour on a regular basis. Pre booking is recommended.
